Job Overview
The position of Physician Assistant (PA) (90%) in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine & Palliative Medicine requires a highly competent, independent yet team‑oriented individual who will be immersed in Hospital Medicine. Under the supervision of the Hospital Medicine & Palliative Medicine faculty, the PA will participate in comprehensive patient care in ambulatory or inpatient settings and provide multidisciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians.
Responsibilities
- Perform clinical functions appropriate to the scope of practice, including management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and approved medical and surgical procedures.
- Provide patient care across all relevant health‑licensed settings and affiliates, maintaining high standards of care and accountability.
- Credential and obtain required privileges through Medical Staff prior to the first working day.
- Collaborate with supervising physicians, designate physicians, or Administrative Manager for evaluation and feedback.
- Maintain and improve patient safety and quality of care through evidence‑based practices.
- Document medical information clearly in writing and communicate it effectively over the phone or in person.
Required Qualifications
- Clear understanding of core internal medicine principles.
- Knowledge of medical history elements and skill in history-taking.
- Expertise in physical examination and use of standard protocols for Hospital Medicine patients.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, flexibility, and customer‑service orientation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in preparing clear medical reports, laboratory data, and progress notes.
- Adherence to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Multilingual ability preferred.
- Licensure through the California Physician Assistant Board with an active California PA license.
- Completion of a physician assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- National board certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) at the time of initial appointment.
- Experience working with patients undergoing single and combined modality treatment plans.
Special Conditions
- Provide documentation of care (number and type of cases/procedures performed) during the past 24 months, representative of the scope and complexity of requested privileges.
- Obtain UCI Medical Center Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
