Location and Pay

Location: Hematology & Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg
Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $170,000.00

Position Summary

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) with a keen interest in Oncology to provide medical oncology and hematology care to patients in collaboration with physicians and other providers within the practice. Provides follow-up care, symptom management and acute care to patients on and off treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess physical and psychosocial status of patients via interview, health history, physical exam, and diagnostic studies.
  • Write prescriptions for medication, blood products, routine diagnostic/follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post‑discharge care following practice protocols.
  • Determine patient eligibility for clinical trials based on findings.
  • Interpret and evaluate findings of studies/tests; relay appropriate information to collaborating physicians.
  • Administer therapeutic measures and obtain specimens as prescribed.
  • Dictate follow‑up letters to referring physicians summarizing treatment, response, and plan.
  • Dictate or write patient history, admissions, progress, and discharge notes promptly.
  • Assist in managing family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient’s care.
  • Conduct or participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds for assigned patients to ensure appropriate, quality care.
  • Provide on‑call coverage and perform hospital rounds as needed; triage patients to determine urgency of physician evaluation.
  • Document and report care accurately and timely using appropriate forms and records.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and maintain flexibility in a changing health‑care environment.
  • Assist staff in times of crisis or emergency.
  • Market and promote cancer treatment to the public outside the institution.
  • Determine work priorities, assign tasks, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations related to patient privacy, patient rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
  • Adhere to company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program; Master’s degree required.
  • Certifications/Licenses: APRN or PA license in the appropriate state; prescriptive privileges or eligible to apply; current certification from ANCC or ONS (AOCN‑P).
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years as APRN or PA, specifically in Oncology.
  • Core Capabilities: Analysis & Critical Thinking; Interpersonal Effectiveness; Communication Skills; Customer Service & Organizational Awareness; Self‑Management; Computer Skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Travel: Less than 25%.
  • Ability to work remotely effectively as required; self‑motivated and self‑starter; ability to work independently with limited supervision.
