Sarasota Memorial First Physicians Group has an excellent opportunity for a Physician Assistant to join an established and well-respected Neurosurgery Group. We are preparing for the growth of our Neurosurgery service line over the next two years in preparation for the opening of our third hospital in North Port, Florida. This newly created position will be based at Sarasota Memorial Hospital - Venice and will involve a mix of inpatient, outpatient, and OR duties and responsibilities.

SMH‑Venice Hospital is located on a 65‑acre campus and features 212 private patient suites, a 61‑bed emergency care center, and 8 surgical suites. It is designed to support a growing community with a master plan to add 400 private inpatient suites and complementary emergency and surgical services.

Position Highlights

  • Join a team of 5 surgeons and 5 APPs.
  • Monday – Friday schedule.
  • PA‑C will be responsible for hospital consultations, follow‑ups and first‑assist in the OR as needed.
  • Outpatient follow‑up in a clinic setting is being explored.
  • Provide remote administrative assistance to PAs working in the clinic.
  • Optional call responsibility.

Requirements

  • Current NCCPA certification.
  • Active or eligible for licensure by the State of Florida.
  • BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Neurology experience with surgery preferred.
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited physician‑assistant training program.
  • Prefer ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Prefer written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.
  • Prefer ability to work independently and effectively with physicians and allied health personnel.
  • Prefer demonstrated clinical competency skills.
  • Prefer pharmacology knowledge as it relates to health‑care practice and prescription writing skills/DEA licensing.
  • Prefer documentation skills in medical records to substantiate accurate billing.
  • Prefer effective interaction skills to ensure successful patient care.
  • Prefer strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of state, federal, and local health‑care laws, statutes, and regulations.
  • Prefer knowledge of relevant health‑care agencies and programs.
  • MD/masters degree.
  • PA physician‑assistant credential.
  • ACLS advanced cardiac life support.
  • BLS basic life support.
  • All individuals providing care to vulnerable populations are required to undergo background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
