Job Description

Histology Group Lead – Cincinnati, OH, Sunday to Thursday, 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM. This position is intended for individuals with prior experience working as a histotechnologist and possessing ASCP certification in Histotechnology. The individual will perform all routine histopathology functions, handle escalated issues, troubleshoot quality issues, and provide supervisory-level coverage for the day‑to‑day operations of the laboratory in the supervisor’s absence.

Pay Range

$32.63+ per hour. The employee may be eligible to receive a shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on the second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on the third shift. Additional details on shift differentials will be provided if an offer is extended. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications obtained. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive an annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervisor or manager in the day‑to‑day operation of the histology lab on the assigned shift and ensure accuracy and efficiency of services provided by the department.
  • Perform all duties/responsibilities of a Histotechnologist II.
  • Confer with and/or make recommendations to the supervisor concerning the operation of the department including policies, procedures, and equipment applications.
  • Provide technical instructions, training and guidance to technicians, technologists, students and lab aides in techniques, instrumentation and organization of work.
  • Perform specimen preparation on non‑gynecological specimens, including cytopreparation, staining, coverslipping, and Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimens after completing training on those specimen types.
  • Assist the supervisor in maintaining and troubleshooting equipment/instrumentation.
  • Adhere to laboratory quality‑control policies, and document all QA activities; recognize outliers and correct them.
  • Differentiate acceptable and unacceptable processing, embedding, cutting and staining of tissue specimens.
  • May be required to develop, execute, or validate new procedures.
  • Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting of results and resolve or report immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist the supervisor with facilitation of departmental training, competency assessments and continuing education.
  • Provide input to the supervisor for employee performance reviews.
  • Maintain daily operation of the shift in the absence of the histology supervisor.
  • Assist the supervisor with special projects, as assigned.
  • Ensure all corporate safety, quality‑control and quality‑assurance standards are met.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and well‑organized work area.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • 3 years histology experience; 6 years required for supervisory coverage in a New York State licensed laboratory.

Preferred Work Experience

  • 6 years of histopathology experience.
  • Immunohistochemistry experience.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Knowledge

  • Meets all requirements outlined in corporate policy for minimum qualifications for Histotechnician and Histology Supervisor.
  • If performing immunohistochemistry testing, meets all requirements outlined in corporate minimum qualifications for personnel performing immunohistochemistry testing SOP.

Education

  • Associate’s Degree.
  • AS degree or equivalent training and experience (required).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science (preferred).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current state licensure, if applicable (required).
  • HT (ASCP) (required).
  • HTL (ASCP) (preferred).
  • NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program (preferred).
