Overview
The Highway Engineer II will play a key role in roadway geometric design, plan production, and technical analysis across a variety of transportation improvement projects. This role is ideal for someone who has foundational experience in highway design and is ready to take on more responsibility in project execution, coordination, and quality delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and development of roadway and highway improvement projects, including alignments, profiles, cross sections, and corridor modeling
- Prepare and update PS&E plan sets, including roadway, grading, drainage, signing and pavement marking, and traffic control sheets
- Perform design calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates in accordance with PennDOT and local agency standards
- Assist with hydrologic/hydraulic coordination, utility conflict analysis, and constructability reviews
- Collaborate with project managers, senior engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate and timely project delivery
- Conduct field reviews to validate existing conditions and support design assumptions
- Contribute to QA/QC processes and ensure compliance with applicable design manuals and standards
- Support proposal development, technical memos, and project documentation as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Engineer?in?Training (EIT) certification required; PE track preferred
- 3-5+ years of experience in roadway or highway design, ideally with PennDOT or municipal transportation projects
- Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), or Civil 3D for roadway design and plan production
- Familiarity with PennDOT design standards, publications, and ECMS workflows is a plus
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
