High School Counselor
Pleasant Hope Schools is seeking applicants for the position of High School Counselor for the school year.
Pleasant Hope offers a 4-day school week (Tuesday-Friday), competitive salary, full health benefits, and a family-like working atmosphere. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience based upon the district's salary schedule.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master's degree in education
- Certification: Guidance counselor certification
- Experience: Minimum of three years as a classroom teacher, preferred
Reporting Relationships: Reports to: Building Principal
Terms of Employment: Teacher contract days plus 20 additional days
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary: The counselor provides counseling programs, both crises and developmental, to meet the social, emotional and academic and career needs of students.
Position Responsibilities:
- Strives to implement the District's philosophy, goals and objectives.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as needed.
- Works to promote a positive school-community relationship.
- Reports incidents of suspected child abuse and neglect.
- Maintains an environment that enables students to have positive self–esteem.
- Obeys all rules and policies established by the Board of Education and Administration.
- Assists in maintenance of student records and protection of confidentiality.
- Assists students with the development of positive self-concept.
- Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health and emotional adjustment.
- Requests records for students new to the school and orientates them to the school's procedures and the varied opportunities for learning.
- Works to resolve students' educational handicaps.
- Provides student information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions of the Board's policy on student records.
- Works to discover and develop special abilities of students.
- Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.
- Interprets the guidance program to the community.
- Provides in-service training in counseling for teachers and student teachers.
- Coordinates testing and interprets results.
- Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Should be in sufficient health to perform the essential functions of the job.
- All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Administrator.
