Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program that may provide up to $200,000 over a period of one to five years. Applicants must meet VHA policy eligibility requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Qualifications

  • United States citizenship (non‑citizens may be considered only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited).
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from an allopathic or osteopathic medical school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the United States (or its territories/Census Divisions).
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification, OR
    • one year of post‑medical‑school training approved by ACGME/AOA followed by two years of independent practice, OR
    • non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the U.S.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical ability to lift 15–44 pounds, carry 15–44 pounds, and stand or walk for up to 5 hours.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary and specialty care to patients with active cancer or hematologic disease in continuity and new‑referral outpatient clinics.
  • Supervise inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy and infusion procedures.
  • Perform bone‑marrow aspirates and biopsies.
  • Participate in and lead oncology conferences and multidisciplinary tumor boards.
  • Oversee hematology/oncology fellows (including those from Kansas University Medical Center).
  • Contribute to clinical trials, including principal investigator duties for SWOG and other industry‑sponsored studies.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional review board (IRB) regulations and other regulatory requirements.
  • Engage in administrative and educational functions within the Hematology/Oncology Section as applicable.
  • Work a part‑time schedule of 24 hours per week, Monday to Friday; potential to transition to full time as discussed.
