Heavy Equipment OperatorTitle: Heavy Equipment OperatorLocation: St. Robert, MissouriDepartment: Public Works DepartmentSalary Range: $18.23 - $19.78 per hourJob Context:The Heavy Equipment Operator is a full-time, permanent position in the Street Department. The immediate supervisor for this position is the Street Department Supervisor. The person in this position is supervised daily.
The person in this position works regular hours and works overtime or at night only in the event of an emergency or to assist with snowfall removal. There is no shift work associated with this position. The person in this position shares on call duties with other Street Department employees. 10% of the work done in this position is done indoors; 90% is done outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
The Equipment Operator is accountable for the fiscal, safety, and legal issues for which this position is responsible.There is exposure to chemicals and/or hazardous materials in this position such as asphalt, herbicides, dust, gasoline, diesel fuel, street paint, or vehicle exhaust on a regular basis. The stress level associated with this position is average. Physical work consists of, but is not limited to, driving heavy equipment for long periods, walking, carrying equipment over long distances, and shoveling. The City of St.
Robert is an equal opportunity employer.General Purpose of Position:Maintain City streets, rights-of-way, curbs, and sidewalks, asphalt walking trail, and operate equipment in a safe and effective manner.Major Duties and Responsibilities:Operate backhoe, dump truck, snowplow and hand augerPerform equipment safety checksTransport equipment to and from job siteOperate equipment in a responsible and safe manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.Maintain streets:Complete patchwork/crack sealingAssist with snow plowingPerform street sweepingPerform striping as necessarySeal cracks as neededMaintain rights-of way:Mow grass and trim weeds on city properties such as building locations, towers or wells as neededRemove trashPerform brush-hog work as neededTrim trees as necessaryPerform seeding and over-seeding as neededMaintain the asphalt walking trail:Sweep trailPerform trash removalMaintain curbs, gutters, and sidewalks:Patch sidewalksReport any issue to proper departmentAssist in rebuilding problem areas as neededMaintain shop and equipment:Make sure equipment and supplies are ready for usePerform all safety checks and basic maintenance on equipmentFollow all procedures when filling equipment with gasoline/diesel fuelMaintain street signs:Place street signs where neededDig necessary post holesMake signs when not ordered from the outsidePerform pick-up services for residents:Perform leaf pick-up in the fallPerform brush pick-up year-roundFill in soil for residents from water damage results, etc.Performs other duties as directedLicenses and Certifications:The person in this position must have and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License. CDL A (Required)Education and Experience:The person in this position must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
