Heavy Equipment OperatorLocation(s): Joplin, MO, US, 64804 Function: Manufacturing Audience: Hourly Work Arrangement: On SitePurpose of the Job: The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner and unloading and storing raw materials. Heavy equipment may include trucks, front-end loaders, skid steers, dozers, graders, compactors, snow blowers and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as required.
Reports to: The Heavy Equipment Operator is an hourly position reporting to the Hot End Supervisor and Operations Shift Supervisor. They are part of the hot end operations team.Job Responsibilities:Follows all Owens Corning safety policies and proceduresKnows plant EPA goals or requirements and insures goals are met on a daily basisObserves the Dry Emissions Precipitator Transfer System (Dust Collector System) by monitoring computer screensEducates workers on exercising caution to avoid accidents and prevent injuriesMaintains a clean and orderly work area by ensuring that floors are clean and organized appropriatelyAssists in developing SOPs and handles reviews of manufacturing batch recordsPositions automated conveyors for selection of proper storage binsOperates the Batch House Computer system, the control room panel and alarm panelCapable of identifying the different raw materials and report potential quality problems with raw materials receivedMonitors holding capacity of bins to insure uninterrupted plant operationTakes railroad car inventories and reports and records inventoryHauls raw material to and from storage areas. Requires knowing how to safely operate mobile equipment such as the dump truck and all front-end loadersReports any problems to appropriate personnel and carries out emergency proceduresPerforms other tasks and duties within scope as necessary and in agreement with the leadJob Requirements:Minimum Qualifications:Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is requiredMust be 18 years or olderMust be a US citizen or have the right to work in the USExperience:Prior experience with operating heavy equipment requiredMinimum of two (2) years related experience and/or training in an industrial/manufacturing environment highly preferredTwo year Associates degree in technical related field highly preferredKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Must be able to read, write, and speak EnglishMust be able to understand verbal and written instructionsSix Sigma, TPM, and 5S practicesWillingness to support training and cross-functional effortsMust have the ability to train and coach othersMust have strong process acumen and high mechanical aptitudeMust be able to secure and maintain job related qualifications and certifications as required by the nature of this positionPossess strong communication and organizational skillsAbility to multi-taskStrong internal and external customer service skillsWork well in team environmentWork independentlyBasic mathematical calculations and measurementsMust maintain schedule flexibility to ensure smooth productionPhysical Demands & Work Environment:Outdoors, often exposed to elements.
