Heavy Motor Equipment Operator (Full-Time)

The Village of Cooperstown has an opening for the position of Heavy Motor Equipment Operator. Requirements include the possession of a valid New York State CDL Class A or B license or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment and experience in the operation of heavy equipment. This is a full-time position with a starting salary range of $22- $24 per hour and benefits that include paid leave time, health insurance and NYS Retirement System. A Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of construction, road maintenance, excavation, and municipal equipment. Duties may include operating bulldozers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and other heavy machinery to complete assigned projects safely and efficiently. The operator performs routine equipment inspections, identifies maintenance needs, and reports mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel. Responsibilities include loading and moving materials, grading surfaces, digging trenches, clearing land, and assisting with construction or repair projects. The Heavy Equipment Operator must follow all safety regulations, traffic laws, and organizational policies while working in various weather and site conditions. The ideal candidate has experience operating heavy machinery, demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, and can work independently or as part of a team. A valid drivers license and appropriate certifications or commercial drivers license may be required. This position requires reliability, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to workplace safety.
