Heavy Equipment OperatorThe purpose of the Heavy Equipment Operator classification within the W&S Maintenance department is to conduct intermediate skilled work in the operation of heavy motorized equipment.Examples Of DutiesThe functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Operates heavy construction and maintenance equipment in the construction, maintenance and repair of public works and utilities projects; conducts labor and semi-skilled tasks as assigned.Operates front end loader, excavator, marsh master, bulldozer, and backhoe; operates large and small dump trucks; operates large and small tractors and mowers.Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment.Operates light equipment and conducts semi-skilled tasks with hand tools or other means necessary to complete work projects.Conducts general construction, maintenance, and repair work on construction projects.Repairs and replaces water lines; maintains streets.Installs, repairs, and maintains drain ways, storm sewers, curbs, gutters and sidewalks; grades area; sets forms; pours and finishes concrete.Performs related work as assigned.Typical QualificationsEducation: Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.Experience: Requires one year of experience in construction, heavy equipment operations or closely related experience.Supplemental InformationRequired Certifications and Licenses Valid in the State of Georgia.Requires a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement.Physical Demand*Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.Heavy Work – Involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighting up to 50 pounds.Work Environment (Unavoidable Hazards)*Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.Americans with Disabilities Act ComplianceThe City of Americus is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
