Duties & Responsibilities

Building onour history of innovation in patient care, scientific discovery andcollaboration we improve cardiovascular care for all, whilecontinuously training the next generation of doctors.
Chief Purpose of this position: The Cardiology Heart failurescholars program is to allow for inpatient inhouse coverage on theCardiology units at night 12 hours per day 7 days per week. TheCardiology Hospitalist service traditionally has been a 2 personteam of internists who support the Cardiology inpatient teams inthe care of patients with multiple medical problems and to supportthe expansion of CV services. The Heart Failure Scholars will bepart of this rotation covering 1 week each in a 4 week rotation. Inthe remaining time, the scholar will rotate through efforts focusedon clinical exposure to cardiology, heart failure, qualityimprovement and research.
Teaching
To support teaching directly via interactions withHousestaff and non-physician professionals.
Research
To support clinical research protocols inrecruitment and adjunctive clinical management and to engage inscholarly activity.
Learner
Participate in learning activity on inpatientconsult services and ambulatory settings focused on exposure toclinical heart failure
Clinical
Anticipated clinical effort is 25%. The workloadand time commitments are commensurate with the medical hospitalists- nocturnists; duty hours will be 7 shifts per 4-week period oftime. Duties: to directly manage patients on the inpatient andobservational Cardiology services 12 hours overnight in acollaborative manner with the Cardiology faculty and AdvancedPractice Providers (APPs). To provide Emergency Departmentconsultations regarding Cardiology Admissions. To workcollaboratively with Cardiology Attendings, Fellows, Residents andAPPs to assure a unified Cardiology plan is developed for eachpatient.
Other
Submitbilling and document care as required by the organization. Abide byall medical staff requirements. Participate in qualityinitiatives.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

- Clinical and Scholarly interest in a Career in HeartFailure
