Health Principal

In the role of Health Principal , you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of HDR’s Health sector in Southern California, contributing to our world‑renowned healthcare design practice.

Business Development Strategy

• Drive development of business strategies for the health market sector by defining key priorities and identifying target clients in Southern California.
• Identify and develop strategic partnerships within or outside the health industry to support and achieve strategic business initiatives.
• Assist in defining and implementing health sector business development priorities.
• Participate in research, market, competitor trend analysis, predictive analytics, and network building.
• Coordinate regularly with the Managing Principal and the Regional Health Director on BD, marketing, and practice growth efforts; identify, qualify, and develop business leads.
• Develop effective capture plans to convert leads to wins and collaborate with local leadership to maximize BD and marketing effectiveness.

Premarketing and Pursuits Processes

• Assist and coach pursuit teams in developing effective client capture plans, pre‑marketing strategies, and building relationships with target clients.
• Guide pursuit teams in proposal and interview preparation.
• Participate and support reviews for GNG, fee strategies, and alternative delivery projects.
• Lead and oversee analysis of RFQs and RFPs.
• Develop, craft, and write proposals; oversee preparation and timely completion of qualification packages and proposals.
• Lead the development of interview presentation strategies, messaging, and all team preparations for winning presentations.

Client Relationships and Representation

• Develop and nurture strong relationships with key clients, including individual facilities, systems, and institutions in Southern California.
• Increase awareness and understanding within the community of HDR’s health practice through marketing communications and public engagement.
• Assist with strategy and content for external marketing communications, special initiatives, conferences, media relations, social media, design awards, and website content.
• Assist with strategy and content for internal marketing communications, annual meetings, regional BD calls, and knowledge sharing.
• Prepare articles, author white papers, and participate in periodical interviews on Healthcare topics.

Sector Growth and Leadership

• Actively participate in identifying and evaluating new talent and provide input on the assessment of our health practice.
• Mentor and coach existing employees to increase performance and effectiveness of our overall practice.
• Collaborate with other health leaders, marketing staff, and design professionals to develop relationships and win work.

Project Delivery Responsibilities

• Drive quality design, innovative planning, client service, and thought leadership on health projects.
• Lead projects as Principal‑in‑Charge or Healthcare Planning Principal to advise clients and add value to our service and the team.
• Provide insights and guidance to healthcare teams on health projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
• 15 years related experience.
• Minimum 7 years project management experience.
• Registered Architect.
• Experience on large‑scale projects.
• Ability to lead a team on projects and make client presentations.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project).
• Extensive knowledge of local and regional market.
• Strong team leadership, mentoring, motivational/organizational, and people skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel.
• Commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
