Job TitleRadiation Oncology CoderJob DescriptionResponsibilitiesReports to: Manager, CodingThe radiation oncology coder will be responsible to abstract orders, charges and related diagnoses from radiation oncology records to ensure services billed are consistent with the record documentationThe coder will ensure compliance with all the clinical billing and coding regulations and will work with the faculty and staff to ensure accurate documentation of billable servicesThe coder will determine and input appropriate ICD-10 CM and other codes for all radiation therapy procedures and analyze and validate that all charges are interfaced with the appropriate ICD10 and CPT codesThe coder will be become efficient with the record and verify system ARIA where they will review the department daily charges for accuracy prior to interface from ARIA to EPICIs always compassionate and empathetic for both patients and team members; makes eye contact, smiles and or greets every individual using the individual's name, if known; treats all guests and co-workers with the utmost respect, dignity, courtesy and respects their confidentiality; arrives to meetings on time; keeps personal conversations with other employees offstage, out of earshot of patients and visitorsApproaches work creatively and continuously looks for new and flexible ways to solve problems; encourages and implements ideas to improve safety, customer service and operational performance; works to create efficient and effective systems so that time is not spent repeating and fixing problems; initiates and supports changeSERVICE: Collaborates to effectively and compassionately serve our patients, each other and the communityAnticipates customer's needs; maintains a calm, quiet, healing environment; accepts assignments graciously and carries out duties with pride; recognizes that every individual has an area of expertise and his/her contribution is valuable; keeps patients, families, customers and team members informed about time, thanks the person for waiting, and apologizes for delaysQualificationsAbility to establish & maintain effective working relationships across the Health SystemMust demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the jobExcellent written and verbal communication skills in EnglishKnowledge of ICD-10 CM, CPT, HCPC and Modifiers coding conventionsMust be knowledgeable of the ASTRO and ACR policies and guidelines for coding and documentationAHIMA or AAPC credentials, certification for Radiation Oncology coding, and /or CPC or CCS certificationExperienced in Radiation Oncology coding and billing modulesRadiation Oncology Certified Coder(ROCC), and/or additional Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) or Certified Physician Coder (CPC)2-3 years of experience in radiation oncology coding/billing setting requiredMust possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned dutiesKnowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease process and medical terminologyStrong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse communityProfessional and Hospital Coding experience
