Position Purpose Provide strategic leadership and vision for a team of liaison librarians advancing the Dartmouth Libraries’ engagement with research and learning for the arts and humanities. Establish collaborative strategies with academic departments and campus partners to support forward-looking research, teaching, and learning initiatives. Contribute to evidence-based assessment efforts informing library collections, programming, and services, primarily in support of the School of Arts & Sciences. Shape the continued evolution of the liaison librarian role in response to the changing needs and challenges of our community.

This is an onsite only work location position.

Description

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Masters plus 6 or more years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • ALA -accredited MLS / MLIS, MIS or the equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree or experience working in an academic library.
  • 3+ years experience supervising and/or mentoring staff, chairing committees, and leading projects.
  • Proven leadership, management, and interpersonal skills which encourage teamwork, collaboration, and relationship building.
  • Demonstrated capacity to foster and manage change in a rapidly changing environment and with a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated success in applying critical, analytical, and innovative thinking to work.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a wide variety of small-group and team environments.
  • Knowledge of the evolving scholarly communications landscape with an understanding of the library’s role in the research environment.
  • Experience providing research and learning services related to the arts or humanities in an academic library environment.
  • Experience participating in collection development in an academic library.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional growth and awareness of current and emerging trends in librarianship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of progressively higher administrative responsibilities in an academic library.
  • Degree in an arts or humanities discipline.
  • Understanding and interest in educational technology and its applications in an academic library.
  • Experience with data-intensive research methodologies and related library services.
  • Experience with grant writing and development.

Key Accountabilities

Establish collaborative strategies with academic departments, key library departments (e.g. research facilitation, special collections, acquisitions and collection development, and teaching and learning), and relevant campus centers and programs to lead liaison librarians in exploring, planning, delivering, and assessing forward-looking research support strategies. Mindful of current trends related to research and publication practices in arts and humanities fields, create opportunities and guide liaison librarians as they connect and engage with discipline-specific and interdisciplinary programs and centers.

Percentage Of Time 40%

In partnership with relevant Libraries’ departments, cultivate teaching and engagement partnerships across Dartmouth. Collaborate on the strategic integration of the Libraries into the curriculum, facilitating student academic success and advancing information literacy practices. Enable liaison librarians to connect and engage directly, proactively, and productively with faculty, students, and the broader academic community. Establish collaborative strategies to assess the Libraries’ impact on student learning.

Percentage Of Time 30%

In partnership with the acquisitions and collection development team and the collections management and preservation team, advise and recommend on school, divisional, and disciplinary-based needs to guide collection development and management in the arts and humanities. May support one or more departments through direct liaison and collection development responsibilities.

Percentage Of Time 15%

Recruit, supervise, and mentor a diverse and inclusive staff; create opportunities for their growth and professional development.

Percentage Of Time 10%

Serve on relevant Libraries and Dartmouth committees, task forces, and initiatives; stay informed of advances in academic librarianship; and maintain involvement in relevant regional and national professional organizations.

Percentage Of Time 5%

Demonstrates professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others appropriate to an environment that is welcoming to all.
