Our client, a global alternative investment firm focused on opportunistic credit and private equity, is seeking a Head of Accounts Payable to lead and build out the firm's AP function. Founded in the early 2000s and managing roughly $22 billion across approximately 200 employees, the firm has been a recognized leader in private credit for two decades. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can design scalable processes and controls while remaining willing to roll up their sleeves during peak periods. The position partners closely with both the Fund Accounting and Management Company teams and reports into a senior controller with deep private credit and private equity expertise, offering significant exposure to senior leadership across the firm. The culture is collaborative and entrepreneurial, with a strong track record of attracting exceptional talent and rewarding performance. This position is based in Greenwich, Connecticut and requires five days per week in-office.
Job Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end accounts payable operations across fund accounting, including invoice intake, coding, approval workflows, and payment processing
- Build, document, and continuously improve AP policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Oversee expense allocation across funds and co-investment vehicles, ensuring proper GL coding in partnership with Fund Accounting
- Serve as the primary point of contact for fund administrators and auditors on AP-related matters
- Manage vendor and portfolio company reimbursement relationships, including W-9/W-8 collection, 1099 reporting, and vendor master data integrity
- Drive automation and system improvements to reduce manual processing and improve turnaround times
- Monitor and report on AP KPIs — including invoice cycle time, on-time payment rate, and exception rates — to firm leadership
- Lead ad hoc projects, including expense policy updates, mock audits of the expense and payment systems, and other process improvement initiatives
Job Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive accounts payable and finance operations experience, including 3+ years in a leadership capacity
- Experience within an alternative asset manager or financial services firm, or a public accounting background serving relevant industry clients, strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of fund structures and management company versus fund-level expense allocation
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA a plus but not required
- Excellent people management skills, with a track record of developing team members and managing through periods of growth
- High attention to detail balanced with the ability to operate efficiently under tight, recurring deadlines
- Strong communication skills, with comfort interfacing with senior finance leadership, external fund administrators, and vendors
The annual total compensation range is up to $450,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
