Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach (Part-Time) – Madera Community College

Applicants will support and grow Madera Community College’s community‑college‑level Track & Field program. The coach is an equity‑minded leader dedicated to fostering student success through collaboration with faculty, staff, administration, students, and community partners. The position reports directly to the Vice President of Learning and Student Success and involves planning, managing, and directing all aspects of the athletics program.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, scout, and recommend student‑athletes with an emphasis on diversity and competitive excellence.
• Provide classroom instruction, develop and assess student‑learning outcomes, manage rosters, and submit grades when qualified as an instructor.
• Monitor academic progress of student‑athletes and assist in ensuring their academic success.
• Ensure full compliance with 3C2A, SCCCD Board rules, and the Athletics Department policies and procedures.
• Schedule contests, plan and supervise practices, games, and travel; hire assistant coaches.
• Perform public relations functions and promote athletes to the media, alumni, and community.
• Collaborate with college administration to cultivate donor relations and ensure successful fundraising.
• Conduct fundraising activities and cooperate with the Athletics Department on fiscal management.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate technology for face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid instruction.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Apply effective teaching methods and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum outlines.
• Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, and assignments.
• Provide course syllabi and maintain records per District Policy.
• Submit all required grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Teach in varied instructional settings and times as needed.
• Undertake all additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the diverse background of community college students and the need for equity‑minded practice. Minimum qualifications:

• Any bachelor’s degree or higher with at least two years of professional experience, or
• Any associate degree with at least six years of professional experience, or
• A valid California Community College Credential, or
• Equivalent education and/or experience (requiring equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications

• Successful track & field and cross‑country coaching experience at high school, community college, or university level.
• In‑depth knowledge of all aspects of the program and of athletic recruitment methods.
• Teaching experience within the Kinesiology discipline.
• Demonstrated understanding, follow‑up, and enforcement of safety procedures.
• Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
• Leadership ability to guide student‑athletes in a specialized area.
• Knowledge of 3C2A and relevant recruitment guidelines.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and make administrative decisions.
• Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion in all responsibilities.
• Proficiency in bridging multicultural communication and supporting under‑prepared, high‑need students.
• Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction and student success.
• Computer and technology proficiency for high‑quality instruction.
• Effective communication with students and staff.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
• Knowledge of the community college’s mission and goals.
