Hardware Engineer OpportunityActor builds autonomous systems for heavy machinery operating in quarries, mines, and construction sites. With 150+ active deployments, Actor is scaling its universal sensing and compute platform to thousands of machines in the harshest field environments on earth. The OpportunityActor is looking for a Hardware Engineer to own the universal sensing and compute kit that goes on heavy machinery in quarries, mines, and construction sites. You have shipped real industrial or robotic hardware, taken it through compliance, and deployed it in the field.Actor already runs 150+ deployments.
The next challenge is to redesign the core hardware so it is more reliable and can scale to thousands of machines. What You'll DoRebuild the current rack setup and compute housing, covering sensors, cameras, LiDAR, GNSS, and NVIDIA Jetson-class compute, from schematic and BOM through bring-up and field revisionDesign for scale and lower cost, targeting 10,000 units that survive harsh, unattended environmentsOwn hardware compliance (FCC and applicable regulations) for kits sold to customersPut actuators into machines for drive-by-wire control and connect to machine buses including CAN and J1939Build out shop manufacturing capabilities (CNC, mills, tooling) and lead hardware work alongside the founding teamYou Should Have4+ years of experience as a hardware engineer or electrical engineerProven track record shipping hardware deployed to real machines, robots, or heavy equipment in harsh field environmentsStrong electrical design, CAD, and PCB skillsExperience with hardware regulatory compliance (FCC)High degree of ownership and agencyNice to HaveExperience working on industrial equipment, vehicle networking, or robotic machineryExtensive CAD experienceExperience at robotics, autonomous vehicle, aerospace, or heavy equipment companiesPrior early-stage startup experienceStrong engineering, robotics, or mechatronics university background
