We are seeking a talented and driven Mechanical Engineer (or related field) with a focus on consumer hard goods to join the Consumer Business Group Home Improvement team.

As a Product Development Engineer, with a focus on the mechanical design of hard goods, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and bringing to market exciting and high-quality consumer products in the 3M brands we all know and love such as Command hooks, Filtrete furnace filters, Claw hangers, Scotch tape dispensers and many more. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of products that meet customer needs and exceed expectations.As a Product Development Engineer, with a focus on mechanical design, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:Leading the mechanical design and development of consumer products, with a focus on hardgoods.Conducting feasibility studies, concept development, and prototyping to validate design ideas.Utilizing CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) to create detailed engineering drawings and specifications.Performing engineering calculations, simulations, and analysis to ensure product performance and reliability.Collaborating with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.Conducting testing and validation of prototypes to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.Identifying and resolving design issues, providing technical support throughout the product lifecycle.To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:Bachelor's degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering or a related field (completed and verified prior to start).Three (3) years of mechanical design and development of consumer products in a private, public, government or military environment.Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for 3D modeling and drafting.Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) principles.Experience with rapid prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing).Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Work location:3M Campus, Maplewood, MNHybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require to be on-site at 3M Center at least 4 days per week)Travel: No travel requiredRelocation Assistance: May be authorizedMust be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).3M offers many programs to help you live your best life – both physically and financially.

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
