Responsibilities
- Perform customer service duties as outlined in the CSR Job Description section of the Operations Policy and Procedures Manual
- Assist the Manager with recruiting and training new CSR candidates
- Operate Point of Sale equipment, Credit/Debit card, Lottery, Lotto, ATM, Fuel Dispensers and other equipment
- Handle paperwork transactions as necessary
- Act as an ambassador for SBOC/Han‑Dee Hugo’s at all times, supporting the company’s values and mission statement
- Address customer complaints in a professional and timely manner
- Promote teamwork within the store and maintain good communication skills
- Use all equipment and produce all required reports accurately
- Be mentally and physically capable of activating emergency controls and alarms, handling spills, using fire extinguishers and emergency shut offs
- Provide leadership for CSR’s, setting a positive customer experience tone in the store at all times
- Assist with completing store paperwork, scheduling, cash and inventory controls
- Proficient in merchandising and stocking the store
- Perform all tasks assigned to CSR’s, including working all shifts
- Report maintenance issues to the Manager
- Assist the Manager in maintaining proper cash levels in the register, ATM and safe, and in making bank deposits when required
- Assist the Manager with training CSR’s to provide great customer service
- Ensure all CSR’s wear prescribed uniforms with visible name tags
- Perform all safety procedures, including extinguishing fires and using emergency shut offs
- Maintain a safe work environment and respond to safety issues promptly
- Promote a culture of safety
- Work with vendors and enforce Vendor Control Policies
- Ensure the store is clean and ready for inspection – inside, outside and restrooms
- Encourage employees to upsell (suggestive selling) to optimize in‑store sales
- Attend all Training Meetings called by the Company as scheduled
- Prohibit employees from discussing pricing or pricing strategies with competitors or anyone outside the Company
- Complete all Fuel Surveys by visiting competitor locations; telephone surveys are not allowed; avoid conversations with competitors about fuel prices
- Do not allow any warrant or legal proceeding to be signed by staff without direct approval from senior corporate officers
- Refuse any subpoena or legal documents; refer attempts to serve them to Corporate Offices
- Be proficient and knowledgeable in ordering convenience store merchandise and fuel products
- Prior to ending the shift, verify that surveillance cameras are working and recording; if a red record light is off, inform the Manager
- Be responsible for the safety and security of all employees while on duty
- Avoid working together with Store Managers to ensure proper management during morning and evening shifts
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work flexible hours with “On Call” status
- Operate equipment such as Safe, ATM, POS and other typical convenience store equipment
- Perform emergency procedures, standing and walking for the majority of each shift, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Use hand, hands, fingers, tools, controls, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch
- Have eye‑hand coordination, visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Convenience store/gas station, car wash and restaurant environment
- Frequent exposure to outside weather, wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, cold, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat
- Moderate noise level
- Part‑time work outside Han‑Dee Hugo’s is allowed only if not with a competitor or in the convenience store industry; scheduling and on‑call requirements take precedence
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Record of success as a Customer Service Representative at SBOC/Han‑Dee Hugo’s
- Ability to read and interpret documents and department manuals
- Ability to present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers and other employees
- Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
- Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide, calculate percentages and discounts
- Grasp cash and inventory control procedures and basic accounting functions
- Apply common sense and carry out written, oral or diagram instructions
- Some computer skills
