Onsite Part Time Sales

Reports to: Senior Manager of Box Office Operations

Status: Part-time, flexible hours (20-25 hours per week)

The Virginia Symphony Orchestra is seeking a creative, highly motivated, and detailed-oriented individual to manage group sales efforts. The ideal candidate is an experienced team player committed to offering a superior level of customer service and skilled at developing and maintaining relationships with community partners. The candidate will work closely with Box Office and Marketing staff to identify, maximize, and fulfill group ticket sales opportunities as well as provide support for single ticket and subscription sales.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Developing group ticketing strategies, targeted at schools, adults, senior groups, and corporate markets
  • Re-establishing, maintaining, and developing, strong relationships with lapsed, current, and potential group marketing patrons and partnerships
  • Managing incoming and ongoing requests via spreadsheets and invoices
  • Monitoring sales and generating reports in Tessitura
  • Forecasting group sales activity for productions and managing to those projections
  • Assist in developing effective marketing materials for group sales efforts via digital, print, and in person campaigns
  • Serve as the point of contact via phone, email, and on site (as needed) on the day of show for the attending group(s)
  • Representing the VSO at group, business, and promotional events, festivals and other shows as needed
  • Working with group sales customers to resolve issues
  • Answering box office phone calls and booking single tickets and/or subscriptions in Tessitura alongside the Patron Services Manager
  • Working Box Office shifts at concerts with other Box Office staff

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or 2 years’ relevant experience
  • Previous sales, administrative, and customer service experience
  • Computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat) – experience with computer ticketing software and knowledge of the Tessitura ticketing system is a plus
  • Motivated, pro-active and self-directed
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and successfully manage multiple projects and deadlines, sometimes in conjunction with other departments
  • Understanding of ticketing and general accounting practices
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed

Compensation:

$20/hr. The Group Sales Manager is expected to be available Tuesday through Friday 10am - 4pm with occasional evening and weekend hours.

This is a traditional in-office position. Reliable personal transportation is required, because the regional reach of the VSO surpasses the capacity of public transportation.
