Group Counselor

The Group Counselor is responsible for delivering RCA's substance use disorder and mental health curriculum to patients. This role ensures high-quality, consistent, and engaging delivery of psychoeducational and recovery-focused groups, facilitating a minimum of 20 one-hour groups per week (four per day). The Group Counselor attends staff meetings and training as assigned.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that groups are delivered professionally and effectively to meet desired learning objectives.
  • Engaging with the recovery community in a culturally competent way, in and outside the group setting.
  • Completing group notes and all other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Performing any other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and experience:

  • High School Diploma required. Associates or Bachelor degree preferred; Addictions Counseling or other Human Services Certification preferred (CADAC I; CADAC II, Peer Recovery Specialist etc.).
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience, preferably in a residential setting.

Work Environment: May work in various environments including professional offices, clinics, hospitals, or out-patient facilities. They spend much of their time on their feet, actively working with patients.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
