Work is performed under regular supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor.Essential Functions/Typical TasksMowing, seeding, planting, pruning, trimming, spraying and fertilizing grass, trees, shrubs, bushes, hedges and flowers; performing a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance activities; operating, maintaining and repairing equipment. Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance of parks, playing fields and other public areas. Sows and mows grass; plants, prunes and trims trees, shrubs and bushes. Rakes and collects leaves; sprays pesticides. Plants flowers; applies fertilizer. Maintains and repairs irrigation systems. Maintains ball fields; prepares fields for games; ensures fields are ready for games. Prepares parks for special events; maintains baseball, softball and football fields; repairs playground equipment.
Participates in inclement weather operations. Edges sidewalks, borders and plant beds; trims weeds, grass and hedges. Operates mowers, tractors, dump truck and hand tools in performance of tasks. Performs related tasks as required. General knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools; general knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of equipment used in landscaping grounds maintenance; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to perform labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.Minimum Education / Experience RequirementsAny combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Some experience as a semiskilled worker in grounds maintenance and in the operation of motorized equipment is strongly preferred. Cabarrus County will verify your educational credentials. Official transcripts must clearly show the specific credential awarded to ensure accurate validation. Possession of a valid "Class A" commercial driver's license (CDL) is desirable; requires pesticide applicators license or the ability to obtain within six months of employment.
Some overtime and after-hours work is required. Position is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy. Due to the essential nature of this position, worker must be available for contact and on-site assistance in emergency situations.
