Bid protests run on a 100 day clock at GAO, which is why government contracts is one of the few practices where a 3rd year is drafting the protest, arguing the hearing, and owning the client call in the same month.
An AmLaw 100 firm with a Chambers ranked government contracts practice is hiring an associate (2–4 years) in Washington, DC. Base salary $215K–$260K depending on experience.
You'd join a DC group that has spent two decades representing contractors of every size before GAO, the Court of Federal Claims, the boards of contract appeals, and federal agencies — working directly with partners who came up through the agencies and know the officials on the other side of the table.
The work includes:
- Bid protests before GAO and the Court of Federal Claims
- Contract Disputes Act claims and appeals before the ASBCA and CBCA
- FAR and DFARS counseling, compliance, and mandatory disclosures
- Federal, state, and local procurement matters, with crossover into government investigations and construction disputes
What you bring:
- 2–4 years of government contracts experience — firm, federal agency, court, or in-house
- Bid protest or claims litigation reps strongly preferred
- Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy; ability to run multiple matters independently
- DC, Maryland, or Virginia bar admission (or eligibility for prompt admission); COFC or board clerkship a plus
What you get:
- A specialized, portable practice whose entire client base sits in one city, and holds its value through any budget cycle
- Early stand-up advocacy at a level most litigation associates wait years for
- Base salary $215K–$260K depending on experience, plus full benefits
