Global Head of Large Load and Grid Transformation Research

Overview

WoodMackenzie is seeking a Global Head of Large Load and Grid Transformation Research to lead research and strategy on data centers, electrification, and emerging power demand across the Power & Renewables practice.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the large load research agenda, encompassing financial, technological, supply chain, and commercial dimensions across data centers, EV charging, BTM generation, microgrids, grid interconnection, load flexibility, and virtual power plant participation.
• Anticipate and identify emerging themes that shape energy transformation, ensuring datasets and research meet highest quality standards and deliver actionable insights.
• Develop thought‑provoking research that challenges conventional wisdom and interconnects relevant research and data across the company.
• Lead modeling efforts covering costs, revenue, and long‑term load forecasts, standardizing methodology across regional teams.
• Drive AI adoption across research teams to improve accuracy, efficiency, and overall research quality.
• Take commercial ownership of large load intelligence research, aligning products with customer needs and pursuing growth opportunities.
• Collaborate with other research and product owners to maintain competitive advantage and identify new opportunities.
• Serve as the main point of contact for large load research, communicating initiatives to sales, marketing, product, and leadership teams.
• Collaborate with leadership on product strategy, resourcing, marketing priorities, and analysis for commercial performance.
• Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the data center industry.
• Identify datasets and sources, ensuring quality control in developing those datasets.
• Support consulting engagements related to large load sectors as needed.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in the power industry, with at least three focused on data centers.
• A mix of experiences in research or consulting and hands‑on work at a data center company, utility, or similar entity involved in large load project development and interconnection.
• Deep understanding of data center industry trends, challenges, and opportunities, and a strong network of industry contacts.
• Experience successfully executing commercial strategies across marketing, sales, product, or related teams.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and AI‑forward thinking.
• Passion for making a difference in how we power our planet.
