Position Overview
Greenville ISD is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Special Education Guidance Counselor to support students receiving special education services. This position collaborates with students, families, campus staff, and special education personnel to address academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and transition needs while promoting student success and compliance with special education requirements.
Primary Purpose

Position Overview

Qualifications
Education and Certification:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate required
- Knowledge of special education services and IDEA requirements preferred
- Must meet all TEA certification and assignment requirements
- Knowledge of counseling theories, practices, and techniques
- Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, and student supports
- Knowledge of transition planning and postsecondary opportunities for students with disabilities
- Ability to provide individual and group counseling services
- Ability to analyze student data and develop intervention strategies
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Experience in school counseling preferred
- Experience working with students receiving special education services preferred
Counseling Services
- Provide individual and group counseling to students receiving special education services
- Support students with social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges
- Assist with crisis intervention and student support services as needed
- Promote student self-advocacy, independence, and personal growth
- Collaborate with special education staff to support implementation of student services and accommodations
- Participate in ARD meetings and transition planning meetings as assigned
- Assist with development and implementation of student support plans
- Support students and families in understanding available services and resources
- Assist students with transition planning and postsecondary goal development
- Support college, career, independent living, and workforce readiness initiatives
- Connect students and families with community agencies and transition resources
- Work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, counselors, diagnosticians, LSSPs, and special education staff
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and community partners
- Participate in campus and district committees, meetings, and professional learning opportunities
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Support district initiatives and special education programs
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
