Providing technical advisory and methodological guidance, the part-time GHG Accounting Specialist will support GHG accounting and carbon flux estimation in the AFOLU sector, ensuring the application of appropriate tools and alignment with IPCC guidelines while working remotely on a consultancy basis for up to 11 months. Key responsibilities Offer systematic technical guidance on the selection and application of GHG accounting tools for project evaluations Review and validate GHG estimates in FAO projects, ensuring consistency with IPCC guidelines and identifying methodological divergences Conduct targeted technical training for OED staff and external consultants to enhance familiarity with GHG accounting methodologies Required qualifications Advanced degree in environmental science, climate change, natural resource management, or a closely related field At least seven years of relevant experience in GHG accounting, particularly in the AFOLU sector Practical experience with at least two GHG accounting tools: EX-ACT, IPCC Inventory Software, or NEXT Working knowledge of English; additional languages such as French or Spanish are desirable In-depth knowledge of IPCC guidelines for GHG inventories and AFOLU methodologies
