Project Manager / Project Manager, Mission-Critical Data Center Infrastructure

The Project Manager is responsible for leading mission-critical infrastructure projects within the data center industry, where uptime, reliability, and operational continuity are essential.

The Project Manager serves as the primary liaison between engineering teams, construction personnel, clients, vendors, subcontractors, consultants, and executive leadership. The position ensures that projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within approved budgets.

The role supports both construction execution and technical consulting engagements. Responsibilities include managing multiple stakeholders, developing and tracking project schedules, overseeing budgets, leading project meetings, coordinating field activities, and delivering complex technical projects.

This is a fully remote position within the United States that requires approximately 30 to 40% travel throughout North America.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of mission-critical data center infrastructure projects, ensuring safety, reliability, and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Serve as the central point of coordination between engineering teams, construction personnel, clients, vendors, subcontractors, consultants, and executive leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop, manage, and track project schedules to ensure milestones and deliverables are completed on time and in alignment with client expectations and contractual obligations.
  • Oversee project budgets, including cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting, to ensure projects are delivered within approved financial parameters.
  • Define, manage, and control project scope, including processing change orders, documenting impacts, and communicating changes to all stakeholders.
  • Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and proactively address issues that could affect the schedule, budget, safety, or quality of the project.
  • Coordinate field activities and on-site work, including construction, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, HVAC, commissioning, and controls-related activities.
  • Ensure that field activities are completed smoothly and in accordance with the design, applicable standards, and client requirements.
  • Lead and facilitate project meetings with clients, internal teams, and external partners, providing clear status updates, action items, and documented decisions.
  • Manage subcontractors, vendors, and field teams by establishing expectations, monitoring performance, and ensuring alignment with project objectives and quality standards.
  • Maintain strong client-facing communication by providing regular project updates, managing expectations, and building long-term relationships.
  • Support new construction, expansion, retrofit, renovation, and equipment replacement projects within active data center facilities.
  • Plan and coordinate work in live facilities where operational continuity and minimal downtime are critical.
  • Drive consistency across projects by supporting Project Management Office standards, project delivery processes, and project management best practices.
  • Support improvements related to energy efficiency, reliability, resilience, and sustainability within existing data center facilities.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while balancing priorities, resources, and requirements across a diverse portfolio of mission-critical engagements.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of project management processes, tools, and methodologies within a growing organization.
  • Collaborate closely with construction managers, engineers, and PMO leadership to align project execution with organizational objectives.
  • Travel throughout North America as required to conduct site visits, attend client meetings, and participate in project reviews.
  • Represent the organization professionally and effectively when working with clients, contractors, and business partners.
Essential Skills
  • Active PMP certification.
  • At least five years of project management experience.
  • Proven experience managing data center, construction, engineering, energy, infrastructure, mission-critical, MEP, commissioning, controls, or HVAC projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, scope, change orders, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, vendors, consultants, engineers, and multidisciplinary field teams.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout North America as required.
  • Hands-on project management experience in environments where uptime, reliability, safety, and operational continuity are critical.
  • Solid understanding of construction and engineering workflows associated with data center and mission-critical infrastructure projects.
Additional Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience delivering data center construction, expansion, or modernization projects.
  • Commissioning experience involving complex systems or facilities.
  • Mechanical or electrical project management experience, particularly involving MEP systems.
  • Experience supporting retrofit or renovation projects in occupied or active facilities where operations must remain online.
  • Knowledge of HVAC and cooling systems, electrical distribution, uninterruptible power supplies, generators, controls, and other mission-critical building systems.
  • Experience managing multi-site project portfolios using consistent standards and reporting practices.
  • Experience working within a Project Management Office environment and following established PMO processes.
  • DCEP, CDCP, or other data center-related certifications are considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial and collaborative culture that values ownership, accountability, communication, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of independence and autonomy while remaining proactive and collaborative.
  • Technical curiosity and a willingness to work across a wide range of topics, including construction, MEP systems, commissioning, controls, HVAC, energy projects, and mission-critical data center infrastructure.
Work Environment

This is a fully remote position with location flexibility within the United States. The work environment includes a combination of home office work, client interaction, virtual project meetings, and regular site visits. The position requires approximately 30 to 40% travel throughout North America.

Project Managers collaborate closely with construction managers, engineers, PMO leadership, clients, subcontractors, and executive stakeholders in a fast-paced consulting environment where every project presents different technical and operational challenges.

One project may involve a data center cooling system retrofit, while another may focus on electrical distribution, backup power, controls, commissioning, or energy efficiency improvements.

The role offers a high level of autonomy, ownership, and accountability. The Project Manager serves as the primary project lead, supports the construction management team, and promotes consistent project delivery practices across the organization.
