Geotechnical EngineerThe Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for evaluating soil, rock, effects of groundwater, and geologic conditions to ensure the safe and efficient design, construction, and operation of mining projects. This role supports open-pit mines, underground mines, tailings storage facilities, waste dumps, haul roads, and related infrastructure by assessing ground stability and geotechnical risks.Geotechnical Engineers work closely with mine planning, geology, operations, environmental, and civil engineering teams to optimize mine safety, production, and long-term stability.Responsibilities include conducting geotechnical investigations, analyzing rock mass behavior, developing geotechnical models, performing advanced numerical modeling, supporting stope sequencing, designing and evaluating stope dimensions, pit slopes, waste rock dumps, and tailings storage facilities, using geotechnical software for modeling and stability analysis, supporting and contributing to ground control management plans, monitoring ground conditions, interpreting and managing geotechnical monitoring data, identifying geotechnical hazards, developing mitigation plans, performing inspections, providing day-to-day geotechnical guidance, working closely with operations teams, recommending operational changes, supporting drill-and-blast optimization, participating in mine planning and scheduling meetings, ensuring compliance with mining regulations, preparing technical documentation, supporting permitting and regulatory submissions, coordinating with geologists, mine engineers, surveyors, and environmental specialists, managing contractors and geotechnical consultants when required, mentoring junior engineers and technicians, and presenting findings and recommendations to management and stakeholders.Education and experience requirements include a bachelor's degree in mining engineering, geological engineering, geotechnical engineering or related field, a master's degree in geotechnical engineering or rock mechanics preferred, 5-8+ years of mining geotechnical experience, knowledge in rock mechanics and soil mechanics, experience with slope stability analysis, ground support design and data interpretation and technical reporting, experience with geotechnical and mine design software, and experience with advanced numerical modeling software.
