This position leads the Regional Production Group’s Geotechnical Design Unit, overseeing complex civil engineering projects for roads and bridges. Responsibilities include supervising and developing staff, reviewing and sealing geotechnical designs and technical documents, ensuring compliance with SCDOT standards, and managing project schedules and deliverables.
The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical support to construction offices and expertise in complex geotechnical challenges, including slope stability, settlement, liquefaction, and mitigation design. Coordinates with internal engineering support teams on policies, research, software, and training, and provides expert testimony when required.
The position also manages geotechnical on-call work orders and consultant contracts, including developing scopes of services, fee estimates, evaluations, and contract documentation.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in engineering and five (5) years of engineering work experience. Necessary Special Requirement: Registration as a Professional Engineer by the South Carolina State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
