Principal Electrical EngineerThe Radar Analog and Power Department is seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer with knowledge of generators, analog electronics, power electronics, power systems, and/or control systems. The ideal candidate possesses a strong combination of design, production, or product support experience with generators, mobile generators, control systems, and power distribution systems.The department is responsible for design engineering, product and production support in the following areas:Electric Generator controls & operation engineering for wound-field synchronous generators and excitation controls for both stationery and mobile applications in the range of 30 kW to 3000 kWPower System Design - Power System Simulation and Modeling, Solid State Transmitters, Tube Transmitters, High Voltage Design, Power Sources, GeneratorsPower Conversion - AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC, Linear and Switching Supplies, Power Factor Correction (PFC)Power Distribution - Multi-Phase Power Control, Fault Reporting, Protection Circuits, Redundant SystemsProtective relay systems for medium size power sub-stations with 4160 Volt to 15 kV main distribution levelPower Sub-System Design - Filters, Harmonic Control, EMI, Circuit Simulation, Magnetics, Protective Relay Systems, Short Circuit and Stress AnalysesControl Systems – Servo Control Systems, Motor/Power/Process Control, Digital Feedback Systems,Design of systems using MATLAB Simulink for power system simulationsWhat You Will DoWork with vendors to optimize generator systems based on system and customer requirementsProvide support for legacy generator systemsWork closely with a team of engineers and vendors to develop designs based on system performance and operational specifications.Analyze, simulate, test, and document power generation and conversion (and related analog) circuitry.Work to further our department's mastery of power generation and help develop related best practices.Resolve production and obsolescence issues related to existing generator product designsSupport both in-field and reach-back troubleshooting, subsystem / component / benchtop repairs & regression testingInstrument and collect measurements on equipment (voltage, current, temperature) using electronic test and data acquisition equipment.Present reviews of technical data to program leadership, technical staff, and customer community. Manage related risk discussions.Lead small teams to success with schedule, budget, and technical executionEngage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers.
Help to understand what opportunities are needed to mature the organization on the technical front.Travel to Tewksbury, MA; Marlborough, MA; Andover, MA; Woburn, MA; and/or Pelham, NH may be required depending on the assignment.This 1st shift role will be 100% on-site.Qualifications You Must HaveRequires a Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years' of prior relevant experience.Minimum of 8 years of experience in power generation, power system design, power conversion, power distribution, power sub-system design and/or control systems.Experience in modeling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools.Experience with safety issues related to working with and servicing rotating electromechanical systems and/or high voltage systems greater than 500VAC.Qualifications We PreferFundamental knowledge of different types of electromagnetic rotating machinery (motors and/or generators)Experience with electric motor manufacturing processes such as stator windings, lamination stacking, stator varnishing, and various insulation classesKnowledge of synchronous and induction machine design of motors and generatorsElectromechanical experience with electric motors and generators, including collaboration with suppliers to identify COTS components and custom modifications as neededAdvanced degree in Electrical EngineeringWillingness to travel, both around the country and world in support of our programs and customersHardware development experience in the Department of Defense (DoD) environmentDemonstrated ability to lead/manage a technical teamExperience generating technical documentation and reportsKnowledge of test and production methods for electronics/power system componentsExperience interfacing with procurement and manufacturing as well as external suppliers to ensure proper implementation of product designsExperience interfacing with DoD customer communityExisting security clearanceWhat We OfferOur values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world.
