Onsite Contract Management & Operations

Tucson Asphalt Contractors, Inc. has been serving Southern Arizona for over 30 years, providing high-quality asphalt paving, pavement maintenance, concrete, and construction services for commercial, municipal, and private clients. Based in Tucson, AZ, we are proud to be a 100% employee-owned company , where every team member has a personal stake in our success and a commitment to delivering exceptional results. We are known for our dedication to safety, quality workmanship, customer service, and building lasting relationships with our clients and communities. Our experienced teams work collaboratively to successfully deliver projects throughout every phase, from planning and coordination to completion.

The General Superintendent provides overall leadership and direction for TAC’s asphalt paving, paving maintenance, and concrete field operations . This position oversees and develops Superintendents and Foremen while ensuring projects are properly staffed, coordinated, and executed safely, efficiently, and according to TAC’s standards for quality and professionalism.

The General Superintendent serves as a critical connection between the field, Project Management, Scheduling, Safety, and Executive Leadership. This individual must understand not only how to execute asphalt paving, paving maintenance, and concrete work , but also how field decisions involving labor, equipment, production, scheduling, and downtime affect project performance and profitability.

  • Provide leadership and accountability to Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews.
  • Maintain active visibility across TAC’s asphalt paving, paving maintenance, and concrete projects and understand the status, challenges, and priorities of each.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, and resources across paving, paving maintenance, and concrete operations.
  • Review upcoming schedules and backlog to ensure projects are properly staffed, equipped, and prepared.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure field execution aligns with scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
  • Monitor production, quantities, labor, equipment utilization, downtime, and overall project performance.
  • Identify problems early and drive solutions rather than allowing issues to carry forward.
  • Ensure Superintendents and Foremen are planning their work and asking daily: “Did we accomplish what we planned? If not, why not, and what are we changing tomorrow?”
  • Reinforce TAC’s safety expectations and ensure required field documentation, training, and corrective actions are completed.
  • Hold field leadership accountable for quality workmanship and complete project closeout.
  • Develop Superintendents and Foremen through coaching, performance reviews, clear expectations, and succession planning.
  • Build a culture of professionalism and accountability while maintaining appropriate leadership boundaries with field employees.
  • Communicate openly and consistently with management regarding field performance, staffing needs, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications

What Success Looks Like

Success in this position means TAC’s paving, paving maintenance, and concrete operations are planned rather than reactive . Superintendents and Foremen understand what is expected of them, crews have the manpower, equipment, materials, and information they need, projects are hitting production goals, problems are addressed quickly, and communication between the field and office is consistent.

The successful General Superintendent will build strong leaders beneath them—not become the person who has to personally solve every problem. Over time, the strength of the position should be visible through better planning, stronger accountability, improved production, fewer surprises, safer jobsites, higher-quality work, and improved project profitability.

Ideal Candidate

TAC is looking for someone with significant asphalt paving, paving maintenance, concrete, and/or roadway construction experience , along with a proven history of successfully leading multiple crews, Superintendents, and Foremen.

This individual should also understand how labor, equipment utilization, trucking, materials, scheduling, production, and downtime directly affect job performance and profitability.

The ideal candidate is organized, decisive, approachable, accountable, and comfortable having difficult conversations when necessary.

Most importantly, this person must understand that leadership at TAC is about developing people, protecting the company, serving our customers, and helping our employee-owners succeed.
