Overview
The General Superintendent provides overall leadership for field operations and execution for assigned projects at Suffolk Construction.
Responsibilities
- Monitor projects for conformance with construction schedule, quality levels, and adherence to SOPs.
- Work with clients and architects; develop and maintain client relationships for satisfaction.
- Recruit, mentor, coach, and train qualified talent such as Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, Career Start Project Engineers, and co‑ops.
- Provide guidance to field staff on materials, sequencing, scheduling, personnel, and construction methods.
- Advocate for Field Operations and support the Business Development Department.
- Participate in pre‑construction/estimating: sales presentations, constructability review, baseline scheduling, site access planning, budget input, and project turnover.
- Implement and enforce Suffolk policies; conduct site visits, performance evaluations, schedule monitoring, and monthly updates.
- Ensure workmanship and materials meet plans and specifications; manage punch lists and warranty walkthroughs.
- Attend owner and project team meetings; maintain continuous client contact.
- Coordinate field training and ensure compliance with safety and Suffolk guidelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management with experience relative to project size and scope.
- Minimum 15 years of general contracting experience, with industry knowledge tailored to project requirements.
- Applicable area licenses.
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and balance business needs, organizational issues, and customer relations.
- Business judgment in balancing budget and construction processes.
- Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong sense of urgency and initiative; ability to analyze complex issues quickly.
- Diplomatic communication skills; ability to resolve conflict with senior management.

Working Conditions
Employee will sit for long periods in an office environment and perform fine motor tasks on a keyboard, telephone, or writing. In addition to office work, the employee may need to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands on job sites. Vision requirements include close, distance, depth perception and focus adjustment. Noise level is quiet to moderate. Job site walking is required.

Compensation Information
Base salary is one component; actual salary may vary based on skill set, experience, education, and other qualifications. Suffolk offers a comprehensive benefits package.
