General/Senior Superintendent
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced General/Senior Superintendent to lead and coordinate on-site construction activities across education, healthcare, commercial, and hospitality projects. The Superintendent will ensure safe, high-quality, on-time delivery by managing daily field operations, supervising craft labor and subcontractors, enforcing quality and safety standards, and working closely with project management and owners. This role requires strong construction expertise, leadership, and excellent communication skills to drive project performance and successful closeout.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily on-site construction activities for single or multiple projects, ensuring schedules, quality, and safety targets are met.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, trade foremen, and craft labor; assign work, monitor productivity, and resolve field issues.
- Implement and enforce safety programs and site-specific safety plans; conduct toolbox talks and ensure compliance with OSHA and company policies.
- Maintain and update schedule progress; identify and mitigate schedule risks and coordinate recovery plans with project management.
- Coordinate site logistics, deliveries, material staging, and equipment to optimize workflow and minimize disruption.
- Review drawings and specifications in the field; identify discrepancies, issue RFIs, and coordinate changes with the project team.
- Manage quality control and inspection processes; coordinate third-party and authority inspections to achieve timely approvals.
- Track field labor, productivity, and basic cost control items; assist with forecasting and change order documentation.
- Prepare and maintain accurate daily reports, subcontractor logs, meeting minutes, and closeout documentation.
- Mentor and develop junior superintendents and site staff; foster a collaborative, solutions-oriented field culture.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of field superintendent experience for General Superintendent; 7+ years preferred for Senior Superintendent, with demonstrated leadership on mid-to large-scale projects.
- Proven experience in education, healthcare, commercial, and hospitality construction preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, means and methods, sequencing, and building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA), with OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
- Proven experience managing subcontractors, scheduling, site logistics, and quality control.
- Proficient with construction management software and mobile field tools (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to coordinate with owners, design teams, and project managers.
- Relevant technical degree, construction management certificate, or journeyman/foreman background preferred.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to multiple job sites as needed; first aid/CPR certification is a plus.
