• Position Type: Travel MRI Technologist
• Setting: Hospital-based Radiology / MRI Department
• Location: Portsmouth, Virginia 23707
• Start Date: August 17, 2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: 3 x 12-hour day shifts
• Hours Per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,930 - $2,080
• Schedule Notes: Weekend and holiday call coverage may be required

Job Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of MRI technologist experience in a hospital setting
• ARRT certification in Diagnostic Radiology with MRI registry, or ability to obtain MRI registry within 1 year of hire
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association required prior to direct patient care
• Associate degree from an ARRT-accredited program preferred
• Experience with EPIC and PACS preferred
• Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and adapt to changing patient volumes
• Comfortable caring for patients from neonates through geriatrics

Responsibilities

• Perform MRI scans according to established protocols and physician orders
• Operate MRI systems, coils, gating devices, and related imaging equipment safely and effectively
• Follow magnetic resonance safety practices to protect patients, staff, and visitors
• Prepare patients for imaging by confirming identity, screening for metal, and explaining procedures
• Administer IV injections and magnetic contrast agents as needed
• Position patients correctly and select appropriate scan parameters for high-quality diagnostic imaging
• Review image quality, perform quality assurance checks, and assist with department QC maintenance
• Support orientation, training, and supervision of new staff and MRI students
• Troubleshoot equipment concerns and escalate issues appropriately when service support is needed
• Maintain controlled access to magnet room zones and uphold infection control and universal precautions
• Provide compassionate care to high-acuity patients, including pacemaker and anesthesia cases
