We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Grounds Maintenance Grounds Maintenance General Manager
Job Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee all field operations, including maintenance, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, and snow and ice management services.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality service standards are met across all commercial and residential accounts.
- Optimize route planning, crew sizes, equipment utilization, and service schedules for maximum efficiency.
- Minimize rework, callbacks, and service gaps while seamlessly managing seasonal operational transitions.
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable all crew leaders, field supervisors, department managers, and office staff.
- Recruit, hire, train, and retain a high-performing team of managers and key field staff.
- Implement clear performance expectations, key performance indicators (KPIs), and firm accountability structures.
- Manage the operating budget, job profitability, and comprehensive top-and-bottom-line P&L objectives.
- Control and monitor labor, overtime, fuel, and equipment costs effectively.
- Review pricing structures, manage contract scope creep, and proactively prevent margin erosion.
- Partner with ownership on financial forecasting, growth planning, and future operational scalability.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for key clients and maintain strong relationships with property managers.
- Oversee subcontractors, manage major vendor relationships, and ensure all contracts are executed accurately to scope.
- Deliver timely, accurate, and fully costed project estimates.
- Improve standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists, and operational workflows.
- Leverage industry software for routing, costing, time tracking, estimating, and customer relationship management (CRM).
Qualifications And Certifications
- 8+ years of professional experience in commercial landscaping, grounds maintenance, or field-service operations.
- Proven track record of successfully managing multiple field crews and supervisors simultaneously.
- Strong financial acumen with a deep understanding of labor management and profit margins.
- Previous leadership experience acting as a General Manager or Operations Director is highly preferred.
- Experience servicing institutional or commercial clients (e.g., campuses, government facilities, Class A commercial properties).
- Demonstrated high accountability, strong leadership skills, and a low-ego approach to management.
- Prior experience stepping into and managing operations within a founder-led business is a significant plus.
