General Manager Overview
The General Manager will oversee operations and tasks performed at the office to ensure that all facets run smoothly and profitably. The role involves making decisions to maintain compliance with company and government regulations, directing the workflow of drivers, packers, and helpers, and ensuring a positive experience for customers through training and a supportive work environment for employees.
Responsibilities
- Review financial statements to determine areas for improvement.
- Meet with associates regularly to communicate expectations and scheduling.
- Assign work to subordinates in a manner that promotes profitability and efficiency.
- Follow up on assigned tasks and intervene as necessary in all facets of the office.
- Develop advertising strategies and acquire leads for potential moves.
- Authorize invoices for payment and transmit them to the corporate office.
- Make personnel decisions as necessary, including hiring, recruitment, terminations, evaluations, and disciplinary reports.
- Report significant issues to the Regional Vice President for further action.
- Resolve employee conflict.
- Communicate or escalate client–related issues with move management/operations.
- Handle OTR recruiting and act as OTR driver liaison.
- Source equipment repair services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of company systems.
- Knowledge of residential, commercial, and military move processes.
- Ability to problem‑solve effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to take charge frequently.
Education and Experience
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.
- Required: Previous managerial experience.
- Required: Previous experience in logistics and transportation.
Working Conditions
- Mostly indoors; outdoor work sometimes required.
- Lifting in excess of 20 lbs sometimes required.
- Lifting in excess of 50 lbs rarely required.
- Saturday work during the summer busy season required and may be occasionally required during non‑peak season.
