Responsibilities

  • Clinical activity and patient mix determined by the VAMC Executive Committee and overall demand for services.
  • Provide direct, hands‑on care to patients with liver disease, including liver transplant patients, and to patients with general gastrointestinal disorders; performance of endoscopy.
  • Deliver inpatient and outpatient care for acute and chronic liver disease and gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Provide on‑call coverage for emergency consultations of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology service during weekdays, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotation.
  • Offer clinical guidance by phone, secure messaging, and written communication; ensure accurate documentation of assessments and observations.
  • Supervise and teach gastrointestinal fellows, medical residents, students, and mid‑level practitioners such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
  • Establish interpersonal and intra‑departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care.
  • Demonstrate competent oral and written communication skills.
  • Provide patient and family education and evaluate effectiveness of teaching.
  • Utilize the CPRS computer system for entering and signing medical orders, including laboratory and radiological studies.
  • Maintain familiarity with and compliance to hospital infection prevention policies, ensuring antiseptic methods during all in‑clinic procedures.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and promote safe work habits among staff.

Qualifications

  • Board Certified or eligible in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology.
  • Full, unrestricted license in any US state or territory.
  • Eligibility for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) under VA policy.
