Responsibilities
- Perform history and physical examinations
- Admit patients (if applicable to the setting)
- Provide consultative services
- Evaluate, diagnose, and provide nonsurgical care to adolescent and adult patients presenting with illnesses, injuries, and disorders of the stomach, intestines, and related structures, such as the esophagus, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas
- Perform biopsies
Requirements
- M.D. or D.O. degree
- Completion of a medical fellowship program in Gastroenterology
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in South Dakota
- BC/BE in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable
- Successful completion of an Internal Medicine residency program
- Completion of a fellowship in Gastroenterology accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada in the residency
- Demonstrate active involvement in 50 gastroenterology cases in the last 12 months (for applicants not directly out of fellowship)
