Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Gastroenterologist Physician, you will join a growing physician‑led practice at Dignity Health Medical Group - Merced, playing a pivotal role in the continued success, design, and development of our regional Gastroenterology service line.
You will provide expert outpatient and inpatient clinical care to adult patients, diagnosing and treating a wide variety of gastrointestinal conditions including those affecting the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, and colon. You will also contribute significantly to shaping a robust care network in a highly collaborative environment.
To be successful in this role, you will be a BC/BE Gastroenterology physician with a passion for delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to a diverse community, strong clinical and endoscopic skills, and a commitment to building a premier service line within a supportive, mission‑driven environment. This opportunity is structured to support an excellent work‑life balance, offering a predictable Monday through Friday schedule with shared telephone‑only call responsibilities and absolutely no hospital inpatient call constraints.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology consultative services, endoscopies, and routine GI screenings.
- Lead the clinical design, growth, and development of the local Gastroenterology service line to expand regional access.
- Partner and collaborate cross‑functionally with a dedicated network of local primary care and specialty providers to optimize patient referral pathways.
- Access advanced diagnostic services and hospital resources while utilizing modern facilities at Mercy Medical Center Merced.

Job Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
- Board eligible or board certified in Gastroenterology (ABMS or AOA)
- Active or eligible medical license in the state of California
- Active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification (or eligibility to obtain)
- Completion of an accredited post‑graduate Fellowship training program in Gastroenterology
- Strong clinical and endoscopic skills, with comprehensive knowledge of gastroenterology care principles
