Job Overview

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Flexsteel Industries is looking for a creative and enthusiastic intern to join the Product Design team. In this role, the Design Intern will have an opportunity to design furniture across multiple categories and businesses. Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to translate high-level furniture ideas into conceptual sketches and garner a better understanding of how products are developed from start to finish. We are focused on innovation and this internship is an opportunity for the right candidate to share and grow overall product knowledge within case and upholstered goods categories.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Demonstrate a passion for furniture design.

  n

• n

  Enjoys creating compelling sketches, presentations, and lifestyle renderings that communicate design intent.

• n

  Proficient in design programs such as Solid Works, AutoCAD, Keyshot, Adobe Suite, Sketchbook Pro, etc.

  n
n
• n

  A ‘seek to understand’ mentality by laying a foundation of research and business knowledge before designing a solution.

  n
n
• n

  A better grasp of design for manufacturing and how to implement smart leverage.

  n
n
• n

  Growth in designing for the customer while putting aside personal preference to create products that generate volume.

• n

  Actively build relationships across the organization by engaging with cross-functional teams and demonstrating a positive, approachable, and collaborative attitude.

• n

  Provide Flexsteel Industries ideas on how to be a more sustainable company.

• n

  All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• n

  Pursuing a bachelor’s degree (must be completed with second year).

  n

• n

  Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
