Fund Controller | Private Equity | Hybrid NYC


The Fund Controller will be a senior member of the finance team responsible for overseeing the accounting, financial reporting, and operational activities across the firm’s private equity funds and related investment vehicles. This individual will take ownership of the fund accounting process while partnering closely with investment professionals, investor relations, tax, legal, compliance, and third-party service providers.


The position offers significant exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to play an important role in a growing private equity platform.


Key Responsibilities

Fund Accounting & Reporting

  • Oversee the accounting and financial reporting for private equity funds, SPVs, co-investment vehicles, blockers, parallel funds, and other related entities.
  • Own the quarterly and annual fund close process, including review of NAVs, trial balances, financial statements, and supporting schedules.
  • Review portfolio investment activity, realized and unrealized gains/losses, investment income, management fees, and fund expenses.
  • Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable fund governing documents.
  • Coordinate preparation and review of quarterly and annual investor reporting packages.

Capital Activity & Allocations

  • Oversee capital calls, distributions, and other investor activity.
  • Review investor allocations, management fee calculations, carried interest, and waterfall calculations.
  • Monitor commitments, unfunded commitments, and investor capital accounts.
  • Ensure transactions and allocations are processed accurately across complex fund structures.

Valuations

  • Partner with investment teams and senior finance leadership on quarterly portfolio valuation processes.
  • Review valuation support and ensure changes in investment values are accurately reflected within fund financial statements and investor reporting.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and valuation specialists as needed.

Audit & Tax

  • Lead the annual audit process and serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors.
  • Coordinate with internal and external tax professionals on fund tax reporting, including K-1 preparation and related investor deliverables.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation, controls, and support for financial reporting and regulatory requirements.

Fund Operations & Oversight

  • Manage relationships with third-party fund administrators and other service providers.
  • Review administrator-produced NAVs, capital statements, financial statements, and investor reporting rather than relying solely on administrator output.
  • Monitor cash balances, investment funding requirements, credit facilities, and liquidity across fund entities.
  • Support new fund launches and the establishment of new investment and legal entities.
  • Evaluate existing processes and implement improvements to controls, reporting, technology, and overall finance infrastructure.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Manage and develop junior accounting and finance professionals.
  • Work closely with investment, investor relations, legal, compliance, tax, and operations teams.
  • Provide senior management with visibility into fund performance, liquidity, capital activity, and other key financial matters.
  • Support ad hoc analysis and strategic initiatives as the platform continues to grow.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Approximately 7–18+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally combining public accounting and/or private equity fund experience.
  • Strong understanding of private equity fund accounting and complex fund structures.
  • Hands-on experience with NAVs, capital calls, distributions, investor allocations, management fees, carried interest, and waterfalls.
  • Experience reviewing financial statements and managing annual audits.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and investment company accounting.
  • Experience overseeing a third-party fund administrator is highly preferred.
  • CPA preferred but not required depending on experience.
