SUMMARY:nn Under the general supervisionnof the Professional Nurse provides direct patient care to the surgicalnpatient. Assists the surgical teamnwith/by positioning patients, scrubbing, preparing and cleaning instruments andnrestocking of supplies. Maintainsnpatient confidentiality. Maintains annorderly sterile instrument table according to hospital standard to facilitatenefficiency.nnnnAssistsnin positioning of patients according to department procedure.nnnnCleansnand prepares room between cases and after the last case; restocks as needed. nnCleansnand prepares instruments and equipment for sterilization.nnnnKeepnaccurate account of medications and solutions used during a procedure.nnnnMayntransport patients to and from the patient units, operating room and PACUs.nnnnParticipatesnin hospital/department quality improvement activities.nnnn Perform other related dutiesnas required. Performs all essential functions with consideration of thenage-specific needs of the geriatric, adult, and adolescent patient. Fosters patient and family centered care andnNursing services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital’snmission, vision, values, with consideration of the life span, including allndevelopmental stages as well as cultural patterns.nnMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:nnBASIC KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:High School Diploma or GED is requiredCompletion of at least one of the following options is required:Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program, orGraduate of a surgical technologist associate degree program, orCurrent certification as a CST, orCurrent NCCT-TC (tech in surgery) certification (for applicants with past military experience only; military experience as a surgical technologist will be strongly considered), or3 years of experience within the past 5 years as a surgical technologistSuccessful completion of a Brown University Health on-the-job surgical technologist training programCurrent BLS Certification is required upon hire Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:None.
