POSITION TITLE: Associate Director for Human Resources - Benefits

PAY GRADE: S&P 5

RESPONSIBILITIES (Non-inclusive)

  • Responsible for managing employee group benefit programs including enrollment and administration, maintaining related records, coordinating vendor relations and claims resolution.
  • Serve as liaison between college employees and insurance carriers investigating and resolving (where possible) claim problems, answering general benefits questions, and providing oral and written summary plan information; monitor and process insurance plan enrollments, changes, and terminations ensuring compliance with COBRA law and procedures; organize and maintain insurance information through the online benefits administration system, BenefitSolver.
  • Assist with new employee onboarding, including explaining the company's benefits package and assisting with benefit enrollment.
  • Confirm the enrollment and correct calculations for payment of the monthly invoice for the Lake County Schools Consortium.
  • Attend the monthly meetings of the Lake County Schools Consortium and participate in the discussion process.
  • Serve as the coordinator of the Health Care Committee by setting up the quarterly meetings and providing clerical assistance.
  • Utilize Banner (Learning Information System) to respond to inquiries and perform data input and reporting as needed.
  • Build strong relationships across the College to foster communication and transparency.
  • Administeremployee benefit programs; responddirectly to employee inquiries and helpresolve issues.
  • Coordinateand administerof employee leaves of absence, FMLA and ADA workplace accommodations.
  • Handleworkers compensation claims on campus.
  • Administerthe retirement manager system.
  • Oversee, coordinate, and manage employee separations and applicable offboarding activities including exit interviews.
  • Compile, analyze, and generate customized reports for administrative and external sources.
  • Implement/communicate alternative retirement options and act as point of contact for communications with SERS and STRS representatives.
  • Implement, track, and maintain databases of various employee information.
  • Review and process documents on new, current, and former employees in HR systems.
  • Advise, counsel, and answer inquiries regarding benefits enrollment or related issues.
  • Promote positive morale and teamwork within the department and provide exceptional customer service to all employees, students, and the community.
  • Assist with the process for systematic review and evaluation of the department’s goals, including the development and monitoring of outcomes and plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes and plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience/Training

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 120 college hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of related experience in the human resources field (e.g. benefits,compensation, employee relations, etc.).
  • Experience working with a data system to record and track benefit and other employee information.
  • Experience with worker's compensation and unemployment.

Preferred:

  • Graduate work in Human Resource Management, Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or related field or directly related human resources work experience that provides extensive knowledge of fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
  • Ten (10) years of human resources experience encompassing all aspects of human resources in a professional office setting with increasing responsibility within the human resources department. PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
  • Experience working with Ellucian Banner or a similar Enterprise Resource Planning software system.

  • Proficient in the use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is a 12-month, full-time position.
  • Maintain regular workplace attendance, report to work punctually (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., on campus) and follow a structured work schedule to keep up with the demands of the workplace. This position does not offer a remote work schedule.
  • The annual salary isgrade 5 of the administrative and supervisory/professional salary schedule.
  • The anticipated hiring range for this position is $75,000- $80,000/year.
  • Please note: The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).
