The University of Dubuque is a growing, faith-based University that is seeking a Full-time Faculty in Mathematics for Fall 2027.

Position Summary:

This is a unique opportunity for a full-time Mathematics faculty member to contribute to a vibrant and growing program that serves students across a wide range of academic disciplines. The successful candidate will play a central role in teaching undergraduate mathematics courses, including calculus, statistics, quantitative reasoning, and other foundational mathematics courses - while helping to shape curriculum, support student success, and advance innovative approaches to mathematics education.

We are seeking an educator who brings energy, creativity, and a passion for mentoring students, and who is excited to create engaging learning experiences that demonstrate the relevance and beauty of mathematics across disciplines and in the world around us.

Primary Responsibilities:

Mission

Engage fully with the University's mission through excellence in teaching and advising, ongoing scholarship and professional development, and active service to the campus and broader community

Teaching and Advising

  • Maintain a full-time credit load of 24 credit hours per academic year, in collaboration with the department and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA)

  • Participate in regular assessment and evaluation to foster continued pedagogical growth

  • Design and deliver engaging, student-centered learning experiences that inspire curiosity, quantitative reasoning, and mathematical confidence. Leverage innovative and evidence-based teaching practices to support diverse learners and evolving educational technologies

  • Foster problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning while helping students apply mathematical concepts to real-world contexts and across disciplines

  • Support students outside the classroom through regularly scheduled office hours and mentor students through academic advising, undergraduate research, internships where appropriate, and other experiential learning opportunities

Scholarship and Professional Development

  • Pursue an active scholarly or creative agenda appropriate to the discipline and share outcomes through publications, presentations, or other scholarly activities

  • Build and maintain a professional portfolio for advancement in rank and tenure

  • Participate in campus professional development opportunities

  • Maintain awareness of evolving disciplinary standards, pedagogical best practices, and emerging technologies in mathematics education

Service

  • Serve as a key contributor in developing and strengthening the mathematics curriculum, student success initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaborations

  • Participate in and contribute to all department meetings, faculty meetings, convocations, and commencements

  • Serve on and contribute to academic and/or University-wide committees

  • Assist in student recruitment and retention activities throughout the academic year

  • Represent the University through professional organizations, conferences, outreach activities, or community partnerships related to mathematics and mathematics education

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VPAA's office or department head in support of the University's Mission

Position Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate a passion for teaching, mentoring, and contributing to a collaborative and innovative academic environment

  • Exhibit expertise in mathematics through completed coursework or qualified experience

  • Design and apply instructional strategies that actively engage students and promote deep conceptual understanding

  • Teach students effectively with a wide range of mathematical preparation and learning backgrounds

  • Communicate and collaborate clearly and effectively with students, staff, and faculty members

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and maintain an active gradebook

  • Integrate appropriate instructional technologies and adapt to changes in educational practices and standards

  • Practice professional and collegial behavior, cultural competency, and inclusive approaches in all circumstances

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Mathematics or a closely related field required; Doctoral degree preferred

  • Emphasis in statistics or applied mathematics preferred
