FT Custodian
The job of Custodian is done for the purpose of creating an attractive, sanitary and safe campus for students, staff and public: providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.
Essential Job Functions:
- Dust and polish furniture, light fixtures and woodwork; clean chalkboard, trays and erasers; empty pencil sharpeners.
- Assure security of school during assigned hours; lock gates, doors and windows; turn off lights when room is not in use; monitor facilities for fire hazards and report to appropriate personnel as required. Greets individuals not known to be district employees, parents, etc. for the purpose of assisting campus security.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Empty and clean the waste receptacles; refill dispenser.
- Pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings.
- Clean classrooms, offices, cafeterias and other facilities of assigned site during assigned shift; (sweep, scrub, mop, wax and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices and other work areas.)
- Clean, scrub and disinfect student and staff restrooms; wash windows and walls; polish metal work, clean sinks, mirrors and other bathroom fixtures; restock paper supplies and soap as necessary; clean drinking fountains.
- Operate and maintain a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, and small power and hand tools; replace belts and bags on vacuum cleaners as necessary.
- Perform the thorough cleaning and restoration of the school plant during school vacations as assigned for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
Job Requirements – Qualifications:
- Experience Required: Prior job related experience preferred
- Skill to operate custodial equipment properly.
- Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
- Ability to speak read and write in the English language at the level necessary to communicate with other staff and students correctly and efficiently.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to meet schedules and time lines.
- Ability to efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment.
Physical Abilities include: Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, hearing conversations and other sounds as well as near, far visual acuity, depth perception and accommodation.
Working Conditions: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 80% walking and 15% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, some hazardous conditions, and in varying atmospheric conditions.
Hazards: Exposure to fumes and vapors. Moisture – wet surfaces. Bathroom bacteria and odors. Unsanitary, Blood Borne Pathogen issues.
Education Required: High School diploma; or equivalent.
License, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Must possess and maintain a valid First Aid Card; Department of Justice fingerprint clearance. Valid Driver's Licenses, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
Work Year: 12 Months, 8 hours per day
Supervision: Site Principal
Evaluation: Following probationary period, Job Performance Evaluation will be done annually, in accordance with Administrative Regulations.
Day Custodian: Specific-Priority Duties:
- All Site's monitors and maintains external non-classroom restrooms 1st Priority.
- Health Emergency-(i.e. Kinder classroom /Pre-K, cafeteria, food fight, blood borne pathogen etc.) per direction of site Principal or designee.
- Deliver custodian supplies- Pre direction of site Principal or designee.
- Must be in radio contact during working hours.
- Monitors and maintain High School Office
- Cleans assigned school facilities, restrooms, for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
- Delivers a variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing materials to the appropriate parties.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
