About the Opportunity

A well-established professional services organization is seeking an Fractional Controller to oversee day-to-day financial operations and cash management during a transition period. This is a hands-on role that will work closely with company leadership and equity partners to manage cash flow, payroll, accounts receivable, and partner distributions.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who is comfortable working with leadership, managing sensitive financial information, and making sure day-to-day financial activity is accurate and properly accounted for. Previous law firm experience is highly preferred.

Fractional Controller Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day cash activity, including understanding how funds are separated from operating income and ensuring cash is properly allocated.

• Monitor bank accounts and cash balances to ensure sufficient funds are available for payroll and other financial obligations.

• Manage the payroll process for approximately 42 employees and 12 equity partners, including pulling and reviewing multiple reports to ensure all activity is captured and credited to the appropriate individuals.

• The Fractional Controller will oversee payroll-related reporting and reconciliations in a cash-based environment.

• Work with the company responsible for collecting outstanding accounts receivable balances and monitor collection activity.

• Communicate with clients as needed regarding financial and billing matters.

• Work closely with equity partners to determine when partner distributions can be made based on available cash and overall financial position.

• The Fractional Controller will coordinate and process partner distributions once timing and amounts have been determined.

• Use SurePoint to review and manage financial information and support day-to-day accounting operations.

• The Fractional Controller will communicate financial information clearly to leadership and partners and provide visibility into cash flow and upcoming financial obligations.

Qualifications of the Fractional Controller Role

• Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar senior-level accounting experience.

• Strong cash management and financial analysis skills.

• Experience managing payroll and reviewing detailed payroll reports.

• Strong understanding of accounts receivable and collections.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with senior leadership and equity partners.

• Ability to manage confidential financial information with discretion.

• Experience with SurePoint is preferred.

• Previous law firm or legal industry accounting experience is highly preferred.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a hands-on environment.
