Help Shape the Future of Personalized Medicine

Rx relief is conducting a national search on behalf of a highly specialized 503A compounding pharmacy seeking an exceptional Principal Formulation Scientist to lead the scientific development of complex patient-specific therapies.

This is not a traditional dispensing or production pharmacist position.

We’re looking for an innovative formulation expert who enjoys solving challenging pharmaceutical problems and developing customized preparations for patients whose needs cannot be met with commercially available medications. Your work will directly support individuals with genetic disorders, inherited metabolic diseases, oncology diagnoses, and other medically complex conditions.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and optimize complex sterile and non-sterile compounded formulations
  • Evaluate APIs, excipients, vehicles, dosage forms, concentrations, and delivery methods
  • Review and improve an extensive library of existing formulations to ensure scientific accuracy, consistency, and reproducibility
  • Develop evidence-based beyond-use dating strategies using stability data, published literature, USP guidance, and analytical evidence
  • Research pharmaceutical compatibility, degradation pathways, preservative systems, packaging, storage conditions, and shipping requirementsli>
  • Create comprehensive master formulation records and standardized preparation procedures
  • Partner with physicians, clinical specialists, dietitians, laboratory partners, and pharmacy leadership to develop customized patient‑specific therapies
  • Establish scalable formulation development processes that support continued clinical growth
  • Train pharmacy personnel on newly developed formulations and implementation procedures
  • Evaluate scientific literature and emerging pharmaceutical research to support formulation decisions

What We’re Looking For

We’re interested in professionals who have personally developed formulations—not simply prepared medications using existing recipes.

Ideal candidates may come from pharmaceutical research and development, advanced compounding, pharmaceutics, or pharmaceutical sciences.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • PharmD, MS, or PhD in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicinal Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related discipline
  • Significant experience developing pharmaceutical formulations from concept through implementation
  • Strong understanding of sterile and non‑sterile compounding principles
  • Expertise in pharmaceutical chemistry, compatibility, stability, dosage‑form design, analytical testing, and formulation optimization
  • Experience authoring or substantially revising master formulation records and scientific documentation
  • Ability to critically evaluate published scientific literature and translate research into practical application
  • Working knowledge of USP <795>, <797>, and <800>, along with 503A compounding standards
  • Experience collaborating across scientific, clinical, quality, and operational teams

Board Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacist (BCSCP) certification is a plus but not required.

This Position Is Ideal For Someone Who

  • Loves solving complex scientific challenges
  • Enjoys creating new formulations rather than simply following existing ones
  • Wants to make a meaningful impact on patients with rare and medically complex conditions
  • Thrives in a collaborative, research‑driven environment
  • Is excited to help build one of the nation’s premier specialty compounding programs
  • Starting salary of $175,000+, with flexibility for exceptional experience
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off
  • Relocation assistance available
  • Opportunity to shape the scientific direction of a growing specialty pharmacy
