Job Title: Forklift Operator Job Description

This role focuses on safely operating forklifts to move, store, and ship materials while maintaining accurate inventory records. You will handle material movement inside and outside the facility, support shipping and receiving activities, and ensure that all inventory transactions are properly documented in the computer system. The position requires reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work overtime, including late shifts and weekends, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate inventory levels by identifying, labeling, stocking, and recording materials and supplies.

  • Transport heavy materials using a forklift both inside and outside of buildings in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Verify items and quantities on packing slips and process receiving or shipping transactions as necessary.

  • Package materials and parts in appropriate containers to ensure safe shipment to internal and external customers.

  • Communicate clearly with internal customers and respond promptly to material requests.

  • Develop and complete bills of lading and delivery forms with accurate information.

  • Locate materials and supplies by pulling and verifying items listed on production orders.

  • Assist with cycle count inventory activities as requested by the supervisor to support inventory accuracy.

  • Learn and effectively utilize the current inventory computer system for tracking and documentation.

  • Sort items according to destination and verify that all items match the purchase order details.

  • Work overtime as required, including late hours and weekends, to meet operational needs.

  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities assigned to support warehouse and material handling operations.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience operating a forklift in a warehouse, distribution, or similar environment.

  • Proven experience with order pulling and material handling.

  • Ability to read and verify packing slips, purchase orders, and production orders with strong attention to detail.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office for simple documentation and communication tasks.

  • Ability to learn and use an inventory computer system for tracking materials and supplies.

  • Capability to work overtime, including late shifts and weekends, on a frequent basis.

  • Ability to safely transport heavy materials inside and outside of buildings using a forklift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Any experience in a manufacturing environment is a strong plus.

  • Experience with cycle count inventory processes is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with shipping and receiving procedures, including bills of lading and delivery forms.

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

  • Strong communication skills for interacting with internal customers and team members.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on role in a warehouse or manufacturing setting that involves frequent forklift operation and material handling both indoors and outdoors. The standard schedule runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with overtime required and very frequent, including late hours and weekends to meet production and shipping demands. You will work around industrial equipment, pallets, and heavy materials, and use an inventory computer system along with basic Microsoft Office tools. The environment is active and fast-paced, with a focus on safety, accuracy, and teamwork, and requires appropriate work attire suitable for warehouse and forklift operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.65/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
