Forklift Operator
Responsible for operating a forklift to move, locate, relocate, stack, load and unload merchandise. Repairs and maintains facilities as instructed. Handling, moving, and storage of hazardous waste containers, response to spills, inspection of containers, and assisting with proper waste disposal. The distribution center is a logistics based department, and as such we are required to potentially work 15 hours of overtime per week, depending on the workload.
Essential functions include safely operating forklifts or any other power equipment to complete various tasks and projects assigned, ensuring inbound and outbound products are accurate and free of damage, efficiently moving products from storage to other locations in the warehouse, as well as loading and unloading trucks, following safety and health procedures, maintaining plant facilities, tools and other items, following the appropriate Hazmat clean-up and disposal procedures, reporting all spills to supervisor, performing all duties in a safe and efficient manner, reporting any unsafe working conditions to supervisor, fabricating, repairing and maintaining equipment used in manufacturing processes if requested, and ensuring all warehouse loads for the day are complete regardless of the hours of operation.
Qualifications include a high school graduate or general education degree (GED) and/or two to four years related experience, minimum 2 years' experience operating a forklift, forklift certification required, and must possess a valid driver's license.
Skills and abilities include basic computer skills, customer service skills, work ethic, and physical abilities to lift and carry up to 100 pounds in various packaging, tip and move 55 gallon drums weighing up to 600 pounds with the use of a drum dolly.
Work environment includes chemical manufacturing environment inside and outside of metal buildings, working in temperature extremes, working in a chemical odors environment, lifting and carrying 100 pounds, manual dexterity required for operating machinery, and use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, hearing protectors work boots, and hardhats.
Physical demands include ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) – safety glasses, goggles, etc.
